Few and Far Between.

John Wooden passed away earlier this evening at the age of 99. I'm trying to pick words to say but honestly it's hard. As most of you know, we love sports. And, honestly, I don't think I could think of another man or woman that idealizes all of the good things about sports. He won 10 National Championships at UCLA as their head basketball coach in the 1970's and won over 600 games. In his 27 seasons at the school, he never earned more than $35,000. In addition to athletics, Wooden is known for his Pyramid of Success and his devout faith. John Wooden was recently named the Greatest Coach of All-Time.

"I always tried to make clear that basketball is not the ultimate. It is of small importance in comparison to the total life we live. There is only one kind of life that truly wins, and that is the one that places faith in the hands of the Savior. Until that is done, we are on an aimless course that runs in circles and goes nowhere."

RIP Coach John Wooden

Bright Side

On Thursday, the college football season ended with Alabama beating Texas for the national championship. Texas' Colt McCoy was injured, then returned, but not to full form. Stinks, but on the bright side- Matthew McConaughey is one of the horns biggest fans. And with Matt comes Levi.

Levi is presh. Just so adorable. He was with his father cheering on the Longhorns at Pasadena. Besides Kingston Rossdale, Levi is my favorite celeb child. I imagine his little sister, Vida- born on the fourth, will be stealing our hearts soon enough. How can you look at his face and not smile?

TWELVE AND Zero!

UC's football team went undefeated this season!! They claimed the Big East Championship and accepted bid to the BCS' Sugar Bowl in New Orleans on New Years Day. Where they will of course face one of my favorites, the Florida Gators.

Of course, we here at popYEAH! are throwing our support wholly behind the Cincinnati Bearcats and their coach (for now, tbd) Brian Kelly!

Okay, intro isn't as legit as ND, but bare with us. We're learning... and winning.

Go 'Cats!

The Face that launched 27 Losses

The face says it all for Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis. This is it. I should say, This is probably it. But, why kid ourselves? Charlie's donzo. And, the shuffle of coaches begins. I hate the shuffle. The shuffle stresses me the eff out. More so this year, because both of my teams (Cincinnati ranked 5th, Florida ranked 1st) are undefeated and boths coach have been mentioned for Weis' job.

Not cool, ND. Not cool. UF's coach Urban Meyer (such a football name) has already dismissed rumors, saying he'd be at Florida as long as they'd have him. But, my Brian Kelly, my Cincy coach has stayed mum. All he's said is that he's focusing on this season. Not good. Not good. Not good!! My Brian has turned a my mediocre program into a legit top ten program. I love him, more importantly my dad loves him. While,

While Weis was driving a historical program in the dirt, my Brian was making us the top ranked program in Ohio. Better than Ohio State! I told Courtney I would cut her if the Irish take my Brian. I'm a woman of my word.

I'm unsure how I feel about this. Charlie has done great things with the offense, but allowed the defense to...falter is a kind word. Brian Kelly- we'll see. I have good sources that say he's the guy, but whomever is making the decisions at ND, they're the ones messing up- Tyrone Willingham, Bob Davie and now Charlie- all fired, all bad choices.

Let's get someone young, someone like Lou (Holtz) who can inspire the Irish again. Especially since we can pretty much kiss Jimmy and Golden (oh if only...) goodbye for next season.

Chick Fight?

Woah. This bitch is nasty. My roommate Michelle plays soccer here at SMC, and I've seen some rough stuff at games, but...Jesus. This girl has a real problem. I mean...seriously. She needs help. Her name is Elizabeth Lambert, and if you ever run into her- run the other way. Fast. Don't look at her cross. Not ashamed to say I'm scared. She's got evil in her eyes.

Flipping for Golden.

Golden Tate is my hero. Love him, so much. I can't decide if I want to be his friend or his girlfriend. What a cutie.

Notre Dame vs. Washington. I almost died tonight, but it was worth it. Soaked from the rain and 50 degree weather. Felt like it was the middle of January. Then we go into overtime. I am practically in a coma from the cold. Cheering helps.

Golden does a freaking 360 flip in the air for us. It felt like it was for us. I was so cold that ending the game as soon as possible was the only thing I was thinking about, so him trying so hard felt personal.

37-30 win in overtime. So epic.

I want to be his girlfriend, then (after we both graduate) his wife. Theo Monet Tate. It's perfection! He's a hot cutie- can't do better than that. I'd change my last name for him.

-TM

Then you would still have two first names. Theo Marshall. Theo Tate. TT. Omg. That JUST came to me. If you marry Golden could I call you TT? Please.

For Golden, yes.

Touchdown Tate.

I totally didn't even think about blogging about this last week, but after yesterday's game against Purdue (24-21 ND), it totally just occured to me.

At last Saturday's home game against Michigan State, Notre Dame wide reciever Golden Tate (love him) scored and took a insanely funny dive into Michigan State's Band.

So funny. Especially because it was Golden. He is so adorable. It was a almost total accident too, which is hysterical because you can totally see it on his face as he's trying to get out of there, he has the oh shiz look on his face.
"I thought the people were going to catch me, but I forgot that was Michigan State's band," Tate said. "And, like, I jumped up and they scattered real quick and there was the ground hitting me hard."

So funny. Seriously, look at the pure fear on their faces. I'm putting up this remix for you to get the full effect. Jump (haha) to :40 for the good stuff.

Sucka Punch!

Maybe, Boise State players said something about Oregon's jersey. Probably not though.

Whatever the reason, something set LaGarrette (wtf?) Blount off enough to sucker punch Boise St.'s Byron Hout square in the chin. Blount sent Hout to the ground. Like, he was out.

Blount THEN went hit his own player and almost jumped into the stands.

In my opinion, he should be kicked off the team! I totally agree. Violence should not be should not be tolerated. If he goes with a slap on the wrist, this behavior is being not only ignored, but encouraged.

He's an idiot - hopefully, he'll go undrafted. Stuff like this goes on your permanent record - yeah, I went there.

I love the passion in college sports - that's why is better than pro's (except maybe hockey), but this is not cool... sends the wrong message to everyone involved.

Geez, why did he have to be black?

I don't want to forget that he has since apologized and promised not to punch anyone after a football game again. That's comforting.

That duck looks pissed too.

Easy Targets

Doesn't mean it can be this ugly.

U of Oregon and Boise State are playing right now, and I couldn't help but notice the Oregon Duck's jersey. Well, I couldn't miss them.

They're awful.

The Ducks are usually known for their awful outfits - excuse me uniforms, but these are down right awful. The color scheme is all wrong. And, keep in mind - these have to be worn by men that are on averaging 6'2, over 215 lbs. Not a good look.

FINALLY!

Court will tell you, I love college football. Live for it. Last year, my parents and I went to Miami for the Orange Bowl!! UC ended up losing, but it was a ton of fun. My dad, a former UC player, got to hang with all of his old buddies. There were a lot of, "This can't be Theo!" moments. And, the weekend was organized by men- mistake that will be corrected next year.

So, don't get us confused. I cheer for Cincinnati and Florida (in that order), Courtney is a Notre Dame fan. UC is not ranked in the top 25, YET, but wait for us. UF is number one, while ND came in as 23.

This season, Court and I will be trying to keep you updated with our thoughts of the season. And, remember... its us- these won't just be football thoughts :]

-Theo, GO UC.

PS. UF - Saturday vs. Charleston Southern.
UC - Monday vs. Rutgers on ESPN!
ND - Saturday vs. Nevada!

Yeah, GO IRISH! Haha I'll be at the game Saturday, so I'll try to post pics and my thoughts (however limited) about the game.
